Poetry and creative writing in the new year

I am excited to running some creative writing workshops at Wensum Lodge, Norwich in the New year.

Poetry Workshop will be a weekly poetry workshop (on a Thursday morning) with a focus on critique and editing. The course starts on Thursday January, 2015, sessions run from 10.30am to 1pm. Students will learn how to critique their own and their peers work in a friendly workshopping group. This class will feature an introduction to workshopping, as well as tutor led critique sessions. It will also include discussion and handouts on different aspects of poetry writing. The aim is to give the student increased confidence in editing their work and a supportive environment to share and learn. The course is suitable for those already writing some poetry and who take their writing seriously – less confident through to more experienced writers are welcome, although this is not a course for absolute beginners. click here to book

  • Hi ,
Is it possible to join the course in April?
I’d be very interested in attending .
    Thank you.
    Christine York

  • Hi Christine – I will email you.

  • Do you know of any local poetry courses for beginners? I live in Norwich. Or do you intend to offer one at any point? I can only find online courses, or expensive courses at the UEA or writer’s centre. I’m a published novelist, but would like to try writing poetry for my own expression and pleasure.

  • Hi Margaret- I am not currently running a beginner’s course (though I may do in the future) – I will ask around and see if anyone is running one.

  • First of all I want to say superb blog! I had a quick
question that I’d like to ask if you don’t mind.
I was interested to find out how you center yourself and
clear your mind prior to writing. I’ve had difficulty clearing
my thoughts in getting my ideas out there.
I do enjoy writing but it just seems like the first 10 to 15 minutes are generally wasted simply just trying
to figure out how to begin. Any suggestions or hints?
    Appreciate it!

  • I usually clear my mind by free writing – just keep the pen moving over the page – even if you just write a list of moans, a to do list or simple I don’t know what to write…
